  Student exchange year in Tw (2K16/17)

 2017/2018 school year  ( August -> June ) 

Dajia District, Taichung city, Taiwan (ROC) 

Rotary Youth Exchange program. 

CONTEXT AND LOCATION :

PURPOSE(s) : 

Study Mandarin Chinese, meet the Taiwanese culture.

Improve my self-sufficientness. Discover an other way of life.

  • Proficient level of Mandarin Chinese 

  • Got more&more openminded and self-sufficient.

  • I've been attending a local senior high school from September till June, where I had 1200 hours of lesson, all taught in Mandarin Chinese ( maths, Chinese literature and local culture, cooking, economics...) 

  • Even though it has been quite hard to understand all the contents of the lessons, it sharply enhanced my practice of Chinese Mandarin, and helped me improving my oral skills. I was the leader of the ECEC club (exotic cultures exchanges club).

  • I was host in local host families in Dajia Township (suburbs of Taichung city ) whom helped me in my learning of Mandarin Chinese too, but also taught me some basics of Taiwanese (local dialect), since half of my family members were native Taiwanese speakers. 

  • Total immersion in Taiwanese culture : my host family members were, for most of them Taoist worshippers, and made me discover all of their rituals and culture that goes with it. Actually they took me on a Taiwan-Tour twice threw all of the temples of the island, and supported me to go on the 2017 Dajia Mazu Pilgrimmage. Culture-wise, the Pilgrimage was the best moment I've ever experienced during this year. I walked with the pilgrims during 4days and 4nights along this 150km road. 

  • I lived this year with 50 other exchange students coming form all over the world, whom I was used to talk either English or Chinese with. In this way, we all enhanced our oral skills together, communicating in English and Chinese daily.

Learning Chinese, and get a glimpse of

                                                    FEEDBACK :

•  Big improvement in my oral skills in mandarin. I thus quickly had to implement my two-years-knowledge in Mandarin Chinese. ( in the street, real life situations... ) 

•  First university experience, I got to meet with native students and had Chinese lessons with them. 

•  First meeting with Asian and Chinese cultures, fell in love w. it 

•  Trainings for HSK 3rd level.

•  Got to understand more the culture, through cultural activities on the campus. 

•. Nanchang city is a 5 millions inhabitants metropolis. When I got to meet the city center , I immediately thought that urban planning could be for me, a study and future job hypothesis.

CONTEXT AND LOCATION :

                                     Feedback/

•  I discovered a completely different environment of living. One of my classmate and I were both host by Natalia's family in central Moscow.  With her daughter, she made us visit the city, as they did share their daily life with us. 

• We were five of my school to fly to Russia, we spent the week talking with our penpals and hanging around In Moscow with them.
